Position: Dawson Creek Secondary School requires a 1.0 FTE PERMANENT Counsellor/ Teacher

Position Overview

Effective September 1, 2026. This position at South Peace Campus includes one (1) teaching block.

Responsibilities

Assist students with career exploration, timetabling, and selection of courses/programs. Support students’ academic and social/emotional well‑being. Assist school personnel in developing and implementing programs. Meet with parents regularly to discuss course selection and provide guidance. Consult with the Learning Services Team to promote health and career awareness.

Qualifications
  • Hold, or be qualified for, a valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate.
  • Successful K‑12 teacher training and practicum or evaluation documentation.
  • Legally eligible to work in Canada.

  • Experience with adapting and modifying curriculum to meet student needs.
  • Ability to develop and implement individualized learning plans for diverse students.
  • Strong classroom management skills.
  • Experience working with students who display a variety of behaviours.
  • Strong literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Willingness to work and implement school initiatives and goals.
  • Capacity to work independently and collaboratively with a team.
  • Committed to individualized and group instruction using a variety of effective strategies and techniques.
  • Experience teaching in a multi‑age group setting.
  • Engages in fair, student‑focused assessment practices consistent with the BC curriculum and reporting order, and reflects on evidence of learning to guide instruction.
Benefits
  • Relocation Allowance:
    Up to $5,000 for out‑of‑district applicants (with submission of approved receipts).
  • Northern Travel Allowance:
    Up to $4,000 of salary may be designated as a Northern Allowance Travel benefit, subject to federal guidelines.
  • Remote and Rural Allowance:
    Approximately $3,035 per full‑time equivalent, prorated for part‑time employees.
  • Canada Student Loan Forgiveness Program:
    Eligible teachers may receive up to $30,000 in forgiveness.

Employees are eligible for the Canadian Revenue Agency Residency Deduction, which may include basic and additional residency amounts based on zone classification.
