The Municipal Enforcement Officer plays a vital role within the City of Iqaluit, working under the supervision of the Sergeant to uphold community standards and safety. This position entails carrying out essential law enforcement duties, focused on enforcing municipal by‑laws and selected Territorial Acts in collaboration with a dedicated team of officers. As a Municipal Enforcement Officer, you will be responsible for laying information and representing the municipality in court proceedings.
Through proactive enforcement strategies, you will help enhance public safety and raise awareness within the community, contributing to a safer and more informed Iqaluit.
- Grade 12 education or equivalent;
- Valid Nunavut Class 5 Driver’s License;
- A clear Criminal Record Check;
- Minimum 1‑3 years’ experience as a by‑law officer, constable or peace officer;
- Possession and Acquisition License (PAL); PAL Applicants will be considered but are required to obtain license within first three months of employment;
- Ability to understand and interpret laws and acts (write reports and represent the municipality in court);
- Knowledge and experience in dealing with By‑Laws, Federal Laws and Acts;
- Ability and self‑assurance to conduct investigations, inspections, interviews and dealing with the public;
- Confidence in dealing with domestic animals;
- Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite;
- Good verbal and written communication skills including concise report writing.
- Police Foundations course, Use of Force, Handcuffing, Baton, OC spray training;
- Ability to speak Inuktitut and French is an asset.
Equivalencies that include a combination of education, knowledge, skills and abilities to formal education may be considered.
Due to the nature of this position, the successful candidate must provide a clear Criminal Record check.

Qualifications requises (French)- Diplôme d’études secondaires jusqu’à la 12 e année ou l’équivalent;
- Titulaire d’un permis de conduire du Nunavut valide, classe5;
- Casier judiciaire sans faute;
- Au moins 1 à 3 ans d’expérience en tant qu’agent des règlements municipaux, agent de police ou agent de la paix;
- Titulaire d’un permis de possession et d’acquisition; les personnes candidates pour le permis de possession et d’acquisition seront prises en considération, mais doivent obtenir leur permis dans les trois premiers mois suivant leur embauche;
- Capacité de comprendre et d’interpréter les lois et les actes (rédiger des rapports et représenter la municipalité devant les tribunaux);
- Connaissance et expérience dans le domaine des règlements administratifs, et des lois et législations fédérales;
- Capacité et assurance nécessaire pour réaliser des enquêtes, des inspections, et des interrogations et pour traiter avec le public;
- Aisance dans le contact avec les animaux domestiques;
