Reporting to the Manager, Policy and Planning (Manager), the Junior Policy Analyst (Analyst) is responsible for supporting the research and development of policy and legislative initiatives to address the priorities and strategic direction of the department, to align with the government mandate. The Analyst tracks departmental responses and briefing notes as required to support the Manager, and the Director Policy and Planning and participates in the drafting of key documents such as Cabinet submissions, reports, directives, legislative proposals and discussion papers.

Key responsibilities of this position include conducting research, coordinating in the departmental statutory appointments and revocations process, and drafting departmental responses, including correspondence.

The key responsibilities of the Junior Policy Analyst include but are not limited to:

  • Analyzing and assessing legislative and policy requirements;
  • Researching and analyzing health legislation, policy and strategy from other jurisdictions;
  • Following standards and guidelines for developing new and amended policies and legislation;
  • Providing departmental staff with information regarding health legislation and policies;
  • Supporting and sometimes participating on intradepartmental working groups;
  • Providing ATIPP support by participating in receiving, analyzing, distributing and responding to access to information requests for the Department of Health in compliance with the requirements of the ATIPP Act and established procedures, as required;
  • Undertaking ATIPP training activities to develop and upgrade ATIPP skills and to stay current with Access to Information and Privacy legislation and regulations.

The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized:

  • Diploma in political science, social science, law, public administration, or related field;
  • Two (2) yearsof experience in policy development and analysis, public administration or related field.

The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset.

Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture,land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
