Position
Community Health Nurse – full time, permanent.
OverviewUnder the direction of the Supervisor Interdisciplinary Practice or designate, the incumbent will be the sole professional registered practitioner in the community providing specialized services to individuals with mental illness, concurrent disorders, addictions, and suicide ideation or attempts, and will act as a point of contact for physicians locally, territorially, and out of territory for assessments and patient critical care information.
ResponsibilitiesThe incumbent takes the lead in providing clinical direction and front‑line service in the community and is responsible for:
- Developing care plans.
- Managing cases and conferencing.
- Conducting initial and ongoing assessments.
- Administering and monitoring medication.
- Providing crisis intervention.
- Providing leadership and mentoring to team members.
Required:
- Undergraduate degree in Nursing with experience in mental health, or a degree in Psychiatric Nursing and a minimum of 3 years of experience as a psychiatric nurse.
- Eligibility to register with the College and Association of Nurses of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut prior to the start date, with annual re‑certification.
- A valid driver’s license.
- Completion of a Criminal Record Check and a Vulnerable Sector Check (satisfactory).
Preferred:
- Five years of psychiatric nursing experience or equivalent.
- Graduation from the Nunavut Arctic College nursing program or other Canadian accredited nursing program, passing NCLEX, and acceptance into the Graduate Nursing Residency Program. NAC graduates have priority.
- Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross‑cultural environment.
- Fluency in more than one official language of Nunavut (Inuktun, English, French).
Recruitment bonuses:
- $5,000 on start date.
- $5,000 at 18 months of service.
- $10,000 at 30 months of service.
Additional premiums:
- $9,000 annual Frontline Allowance.
- $375 monthly Retention Bonus (total $4,500 per year).
Tier One allowance: $10 per hour premium for eligible full‑time, permanent, and job share employees in designated regions.
Tier Two allowance: $15 per hour premium for eligible full‑time, permanent, and job share employees in designated regions.
