This employment opportunity is restricted to residents of Iqaluit only. Job Summary
Under the direction of the Manager of Security and Facility Maintenance, the Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for students, staff and visitors in all Nunatta Campus buildings, including the Main Campus, New Residence and Family Residence Units.
Responsibilities- Greet and welcome visitors to the college premises and provide guidance.
- Monitor and authorize entry and departure of employees, visitors and other persons to maintain security of college premises.
- Patrol the campus premises and check all fire exit doors to ensure they are closed, secured, accessible, unobscured and working properly.
- Assist with room/unit inspections to ensure compliance with all fire safety and health regulations.
- Ensure familiarity with fire safety procedures and that students living in the Residence leave the building during a fire alarm in a safe and orderly manner.
- Respond to calls from residents who need assistance with safety and security matters.
- Ensure students at the Main Campus follow rules and expectations and report all issues and incident reports to the Residence Manager.
- May be required to be on call.
- High school Grade 10 or equivalent education.
- Minimum of 1 year experience in security or a related field.
- Valid Class 4 driver licence; if not held on hire, must be obtained within 6 months.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required.
- Fluency in more than one of the official languages of Nunavut (Inuktut, English, French) is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit and Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross‑cultural environment.
Position is a term position until 2029. Current indeterminate Government of Nunavut employees may be offered a competitive transfer assignment for the duration of the term if they are deemed the successful candidate, subject to managerial approval. An eligibility list may be created to fill future vacancies.
