Title: Assistant Utility System Technician

Department: Public Works

Status: Full-time, 40 hour/week

Housing: No Staff housing available

Under the direction of the Utilities Systems Foreman, the incumbent is responsible for the repair, maintenance and installation of water meters. They will also assist in the hands-on operation, repair and maintenance of the water and sewage system. The incumbent will provide assistance in cleaning and maintenance of the plants, work areas, and equipment.

The incumbent must be willing to work in harsh outdoor weather conditions and in some confined spaces with obnoxious odors caused by waste. The candidate must also be willing to participate in training and other safety related courses within the first 6 months of employment.

Note: Equivalencies that include a combination of education, knowledge, skills and abilities to formal education may be considered.

• Repair, maintenance and installation of water meters.
• Assist in the operation, repair and maintenance of the water and sewage system.
• Assist in cleaning and maintenance of plants, work areas, and equipment.
• Adhere to safety training and course requirements within the first 6 months of employment.

• Minimum: Completed grade 10 education.
• Must be proficient at working with numerical data and have efficient, practical computer knowledge.

• Punctual, reliable, and able to work independently.
• Additional training and certifications in a related field are an asset.
• Related experience in a Municipal setting is an asset.
• Experience working in piped water/sewage is an asset.
• Ability to communicate in both Inuktitut and English is an asset.
• Ability to be scheduled at the last minute; some overtime is necessary.
• Assets include the ability to speak and write in Inuktitut.

• Due to the nature of this position, a Criminal Record check and a clean driver’s abstract are required of this position.
