Job Description:
Reporting to the Aquatics Program Supervisor, the Assistant Lifeguard is responsible for assisting in the supervision and control of activities, safety standards, providing high quality customer service and cleanliness of the aquatic facility. The Assistant Lifeguard provides assistance in the instruction of swimming lessons.

Education, Experience & Requirements

Required Qualifications:

• Must be a minimum of 15 years of age;

• Must be current in the following qualifications:
Bronze Cross (or higher), Standard First Aid with CPR C

• Vision Requirement:
Candidates will, at the discretion of the City of Iqaluit, confirm vision standard of minimum 20/25 corrected

Preferred Education, Skills and Knowledge:

• Completion or in process of completing Grade 9;

• Must be able to maintain required certification;

• Ability to work as part of a team;

• Excellent interpersonal skills;

• Able to communicate effectively and efficiently both written and orally;

• Able to perform skills to the National Lifeguard standard;

• Able to work flexible shifts including daytime, evenings, weekends and split shifts.

• Ability to speak Inuktitut and French is an asset

The Following Certifications are Considered Assets: LSS Assistant Instructor, LSS Swim/Lifesaving instructor, National Lifeguard, Pool Operator level 1, High Five (PHCD), Aquafit certification (CALA, Canfit, Waterart), NCCP Coaching Level 1

Due to the nature of this position, candidates must submit a clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening.

Equivalencies that include a combination of education and experience may be considered

As per Article 23 of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement, priority will be given to Nunavut Land Claim Beneficiaries who meet the criteria.
