State Government Audit Supervisor

The Manager serves as the point of contact between the Partner, the client, and the professional team. Managers oversee numerous auditing and accounting projects and client engagements concurrently, as well as coordinating engagement workflow, staffing, and scheduling. Managers mentor and develop staff while also fostering new business opportunities for the Firm. They play a key role in nurturing client relationships.

Responsibilities Oversee all phases of audit or review engagements on multiple projects simultaneously

Maintain consistent communication with clients, possessing in-depth knowledge of client operations and controls; cultivating strong client relations

Keep engagement Director or Partner informed of major client account developments; identify potential issues and propose solutions

Showcase expertise in technical skills, work quality, and application of professional and Firm standards, offering advisory services to clients

Ensure proper scheduling of engagements

Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the firm's audit approach

Create, track, and adhere to budgets for designated Assurance and Advisory engagements; investigate and explain budget overruns and identify scope expansion opportunities

Anticipate potential engagement issues and questions

Review financial statements and client deliverables

Supervise and review work of senior accountants and staff accountants

Contribute to staff performance evaluations, reviews, and mentoring

Participate in Firm business development initiatives

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field

At least five years of public accounting experience, specifically in the public sector, including auditing state and local governments

Active CPA license

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated leadership abilities and team collaboration skills

Effective prioritization and deadline management skills

Thorough understanding of U.S. GAAP and GASB standards

Extensive experience conducting audits in accordance with GAGAS, GAAS, and Uniform Guidance Open to training, supervision, and feedback

Capability to oversee, review, and train staff at all levels

Exposure to auditing not-for-profit organizations

Working Conditions Hybrid work setup (remote, office, or client location) as necessary to serve clients and train staff

Same-day travel to client sites, meetings, and seminars as required

Occasional out-of-town travel with overnight stays for client work, meetings, or seminars
