Project Manager-Public Works Heavy Civil Construction
A licensed public works construction contractor specializing in municipal and government‑funded infrastructure projects, including underground utilities, road and highway improvements, bridges, public facilities, and vertical public‑use structures. We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee public works projects from bid award through closeout.
Key Responsibilities- Manage public works construction projects including underground utilities, roadway improvements, bridges, highway widening, municipal facilities, and public facilities.
- Lead projects from pre‑construction handoff through final closeout.
- Review plans, specifications, and contract documents for public agency projects.
- Prepare and manage project budgets, schedules, and cost controls.
- Coordinate with field teams, subcontractors, inspectors, and public agency representatives.
- Manage change orders, RFIs, submittals, and progress billing.
- Support bid turnover, project setup, and preconstruction meetings.
- Track quantities, production, and cost impacts for scope changes.
- Ensure compliance with public works requirements, safety standards, and contract specifications.
- 5+ years of Project Management experience in public works / government construction.
- Strong background in heavy civil and/or public infrastructure projects.
- Experience managing change orders, bid items, and contract modifications.
- Ability to interpret plans, specs, and public agency contracts.
- Familiarity with public works compliance (prevailing wage, certified payroll coordination, subcontractor documentation).
- Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills.
- Proficiency with construction management software (Procore, Primavera, MS Project, or similar).
- Underground utilities (water, sewer, storm drain).
- Roads, highways, bridges, and transportation projects.
- Vertical public‑use facilities (schools, gyms, municipal buildings).
- Experience working directly with cities, counties, DOT, or other public agencies.
