Construction Superintendent | Environmental & Industrial Construction

We're seeking an experienced Construction Superintendent to oversee environmental remediation, industrial facility upgrades, treatment system construction, decommissioning, and demolition projects throughout the Western United States. This position is ideal for a field-focused construction professional who enjoys solving complex site challenges, managing contractors, enforcing safety requirements, and driving successful project execution in active industrial environments. This is not a desk-based project management role.

We're looking for a hands-on construction leader who enjoys being in the field, walking projects daily, identifying issues before they become problems, and holding contractors accountable for safety, productivity, and quality.

What You'll Do
  • Act as the primary onsite construction representative.
  • Lead daily field execution activities on environmental and industrial construction projects.
  • Coordinate and oversee subcontractors and specialty contractors.
  • Review permits, plans of the day, Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), and field work packages.
  • Drive contractor accountability, productivity, safety performance, and schedule adherence.
  • Identify constructability challenges and develop practical field solutions.
  • Monitor scope changes, field impacts, and potential cost exposures.
  • Document daily construction activities, observations, and progress reports.
  • Support RFI management, submittals, change documentation, and project controls.
  • Coordinate closely with Project Managers, engineers, safety professionals, and client stakeholders.
  • Utilize construction management software platforms to manage project documentation and reporting.
  • Travel to project locations throughout California and the Western United States as business needs require.
Highly Relevant Experience

Candidates with experience in the following environments are strongly preferred:

  • Environmental Remediation
  • Groundwater Treatment Systems
  • Industrial Wastewater Projects
  • Landfill Gas Collection Systems
  • Leachate Treatment Systems
  • Brownfield Redevelopment
  • Industrial Facility Upgrades
  • Manufacturing Facilities
  • Refining & Petrochemical Facilities
  • Heavy Industrial Construction
  • Decommissioning & Demolition Projects
  • Industrial Infrastructure Projects
  • Environmental EPC Projects
Ideal Background

Successful candidates typically possess:

  • 5+ years of Construction Manager or Superintendent experience.
  • Experience overseeing multiple contractors in active industrial environments.
  • Strong field leadership skills and ability to independently manage daily site activities.
  • Experience reviewing drawings, specifications, and identifying constructability issues.
  • Strong understanding of industrial piping, mechanical systems, treatment systems, or process facilities.
  • Experience supporting safety programs, permits, and compliance requirements.
  • Strong documentation and communication skills.
  • Experience managing contractor performance, field changes, and project reporting.
  • Ability to effectively challenge unsafe work practices and enforce project requirements.
Preferred Certifications
  • OSHA 30
  • HAZWOPER 40
  • Current HAZWOPER Refresher
  • Confined Space Training
  • Industrial Safety Certifications

Equivalent experience will be considered.

Travel & Work Environment
  • Primarily field-based position.
  • Industrial construction and environmental project sites.
  • Extensive interaction with contractors and field personnel.
  • Travel is a core requirement of the role.
  • Typical project rotations may involve approximately two weeks onsite followed by a long weekend home.
  • Projects may be located throughout California and other Western U.S. regions.
What Makes Someone Successful Here

The strongest candidates are experienced field leaders who:

  • Walk projects daily rather than manage from behind a desk.
  • Hold contractors accountable for safety, scope, and quality.
  • Quickly identify field problems and develop practical solutions.
  • Protect project interests through strong documentation and communication.
  • Thrive in industrial and environmental construction environments.
  • Build strong relationships while maintaining high standards and expectations.
