Position description

The Department of Neurology at the UC Irvine School of Medicine offers a two‑year neurocritical care fellowship accredited by the United Council for Neurological Subspecialties. The training is based at UC Irvine Medical Center, Orange County's only Level I trauma center and certified comprehensive stroke center. The medical center's UC Irvine Health Douglas Hospital has advanced neuroimaging capabilities, including a 3‑tesla MRI and a 64‑slice CT scanner.

Video EEG capabilities with off‑site recording allow for 24‑hour monitoring of epilepsy patients. There are 12 dedicated neurointensive care unit beds. Our team of neurointensivists includes fellowship‑trained physicians from the Department of Neurology.

They are also expected to master procedural skills, including central venous line placement, arterial line placement, multi‑modality monitoring, lumbar puncture, and endotracheal intubation.

The Fellowship program focuses on patient safety, quality improvement, and quality monitoring and reporting. On completion fellows will be experienced in managing a wide range of neurological, neurosurgical, and medical critical care conditions.
