After School Instructor – Catalyst Family

After School Instructor at Catalyst Family works with a group of up to 20 students (TK‑8th grade) daily. Responsibilities include tutoring, homework assistance, and educational enrichment. The role requires high energy, strong organization and communication skills, and the ability to maintain a fun, structured atmosphere. Instructors coordinate Catalyst programs with the regular school day, leveraging classroom spaces and collaborating closely with district staff.

They report to the Site Coordinator at their respective site.

Essential Job Functions
  • Provide tutoring and homework assistance to help students meet national standards.
  • Collaborate with the Site Coordinator to create and implement the Catalyst Expand Ed Learning (ExL) curriculum, rules, and procedures.
  • Provide educational enrichment, including positive youth development strategies, recreation and prevention activities, and teaching life‑skill lessons.
  • Work collaboratively with staff members at the site, Catalyst ExL peers, Catalyst Kids (where applicable), and district staff and teachers.
  • Track student progress using programmatic protocol.
  • Ensure consistent supervision and maintain a safe, supported environment.
  • Promptly complete all safety documentation, including injury reports and license‑exempt Unusual Incident Reports (UIRs).
  • Track attendance daily and fulfill After School Enrichment & Safety (ASES) requirements where applicable.
  • Fill out the lesson‑planning form weekly.
  • Maintain professionalism with students and families.
  • Relay feedback from students and parents to the Site Coordinator.
  • Attend regular staff and district meetings.
  • Support and participate in family and site‑based events.
  • Support other sites when needed or called upon if staffing constraints arise.
  • Communicate regularly with the Site Coordinator regarding program aspects.
  • Apply approved behavior‑management techniques to support children with challenging behaviors.
  • Maintain all required health, safety, education, and HR training, in addition to district requirements.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance student learning.
  • Prepare and adapt classroom settings, including carrying up to 25 lb of furniture and materials for mobile classroom needs.
  • Promote an inclusive environment of teamwork, ensuring Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is practiced in all operations.
Education & Experience
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Must meet district requirements which may vary (e.g., passing an exam, paraprofessional certification). College units in education, recreation, or child development desired.
  • Experience: Minimum 6 months working with children preferred.
Other Qualifications
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to manage a classroom of up to 20 students independently.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills; discretion in sensitive situations.
  • Understanding of behavior management and effective strategies.
  • Highly organized with excellent interpersonal and partnership skills.
  • Enthusiastic, motivated, and team-oriented.
  • Strong leadership and time‑management abilities.
  • Flexible, child‑focused, and eager to make a positive impact.
  • Ability to meet state and district‑specific requirements: fingerprint live scan, CPR/First Aid certification, medical/TB test, mandated‑reporter training, food‑handler permit (where applicable).

Shift Type: Part‑time

Schedule: Monday–Tuesday & Thursday–Friday, 1:30 pm‑6 pm;
Wednesday, 1 pm‑6 pm
