Substitute, Teacher Lower School

The Substitute Teacher is responsible for maintaining the continuity of instruction in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. This role involves following lesson plans, managing classroom behavior, and supporting students in their learning to ensure a positive and productive educational environment. The Substitute Teacher plays a key role in upholding the school’s academic standards and fostering a safe, respectful, and engaging classroom experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver instructional activities as outlined in the teacher’s lesson plans.
  • Manage classroom behavior and maintain a safe, respectful learning environment.
  • Provide support and clarification to students during instructional activities.
  • Supervise students during class, transitions, recess, lunch, and other assigned times.
  • Report attendance, student progress, and any issues to the appropriate administrator.
  • Communicate effectively with school staff and follow all school policies and procedures.
  • Adapt to different grade levels, subjects, and classroom settings as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
  • Complete any required reports or documentation related to the assignment.
Qualifications Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required (degree in education preferred).
  • Prior teaching or classroom experience strongly preferred.
  • Valid state teaching credential or substitute teaching permit (if required by law).

  • Ability to quickly establish rapport with students and staff.
