The University of California, Irvine Libraries seeks a Digital Initiatives Librarian. The role is integral to Data, Publishing, and Digital Scholarship (DPDS). The librarian will lead digital collections, capacity building, and policy development for sustainable digital publishing and scholarship.
Scope of the PositionReporting to the Head of DPDS, the Digital Initiatives Librarian will collaborate on strategic development and stewardship of UC Irvine Libraries’ digital collections, contribute to capacity‑building, and develop procedures for digital publishing, digital scholarship, and innovative research.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and manage UC Irvine Libraries’ digital collections, both special and general.
- Serve as project manager for inter‑departmental projects related to digital collections, systems, publishing infrastructure, and research.
- Coordinate rights review for digitization and digital publishing projects.
- Manage and grow tools, services, and standards that promote dynamic, ethical digital collections.
- Partner with library and external stakeholders to identify and prioritize support needs, system improvements, and user experience for digital repositories.
- Formulate strategies, policies, and procedures for digital projects.
- Represent UC Irvine Libraries to the California Digital Library.
- Engage in outreach to promote ethical reuse and inclusion of digital collections.
- Maintain awareness of grant opportunities for digitization and digital projects.
- Other duties as assigned, including liaison responsibilities.
Required
- Graduate degree in library science from an ALA‑accredited institution or equivalent advanced degree and library experience.
- Creative scholarly and technical expertise for the evolving strategic vision for data, publishing, and digital scholarship.
- Experience with project management and leading complex digital projects.
- Experience developing strategies, policies, and workflows in digitization, digital asset management, and digital publishing.
- Knowledge of scholarly communication, intellectual property, and rights management.
- Effective communication with technical and non‑technical collaborators.
- Commitment to user‑centered library services.
- Collaborative, creative, and inclusive workplace ethic.
- Meets University of California criteria for advancement and promotion.
Preferred
- Experience in an academic or research library.
- Knowledge of emerging technologies responsible for managing digital collections.
- Knowledge of digital scholarship tools, metadata principles, and scholarly communication.
Salary is $74,224 – $102,121. Benefits include two days per month annual leave, thirteen paid holidays, one day per month sick leave, retirement system, and health, life, and disability insurance plans. Benefits equal approximately 45% of salary.
