Civil Engineer - Public Works

Role Description: Huitt-Zollars, Inc has full-time opportunity for a Civil Engineer (Eng IV) with at least three years of experience and will be a registered Professional Engineer for our Irvine office. This role works collaboratively in a team environment providing engineering design for public works, hydrology/hydraulics, and utility projects.

Duties

  • Serve as Civil Engineer in the development of design schematics, construction plans, specifications and estimates
  • Review shop drawings, perform field observations, and facilitate the construction administration
  • Support project proposals, scopes, budgets, and manage execution and tracking of projects
  • Complete projects within client specifications, budgets and schedules
  • Coordinate online meetings, preparation of meeting agendas, and distribution of meeting
  • Develops broad knowledge and skills in public works civil engineering, drainage, hydrology and hydraulics, storm water quality (LID, WQMP, SWPPP, SMARTS) and utilities
  • Evaluates, selects, and applies applicable standard plans/manuals, techniques, procedures, and criteria for conventional projects with few complex features
  • Collaboratively uses judgment to determine adaptations in methods for non-routine aspects of projects
  • Works on small projects or portions of larger projects
  • Performs moderate drainage design, hydrology and hydraulics analysis tasks
  • Performs moderate stormwater quality tasks
  • Prepares portions of project technical reports, plans, specifications and estimates
  • Assigns tasks to and coordinates work with entry- level engineers, technicians, or administrative staff
  • Possesses effective oral and written communication skills
  • Assists with client, customer, or official contacts and communication pertaining to specific assignments or meetings


Key Responsibilities

  • Understands, follows, and enforces Huitt-Zollars' business process.
  • Productively collaborates with PMs and encourages teams to achieve success and camaraderie amongst each other.
  • Understands and follows HZ QMS and Quality initiatives. Assists PM on ensuring that quality control measures are being adhered to on projects and daily operations.
  • Understands duties and responsibilities, possesses necessary job knowledge and technical skills, maintains job knowledge current.
  • Assist with appropriate administrative and project support tasks supporting the needs of the PM on assigned project tasks.
  • Contributes to successful delivery and performance of projects.
  • Complete assignments on-time, within budget, and with highest level of quality.
  • Routinely proposes and produces more effective ways to accomplish tasks.
  • Assists PM as needed on work planning. Prepares and follows comprehensive Project Framework Instructions and proper work planning for a project. Assists PM on ensuring proper staff is assigned and utilized on their projects.
  • Assists PMs as needed on reviewing project reports and performance metrics to track project progress and budget. Assists PM in leading successful projects (profit, on-schedule, quality, satisfied client).
Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (BSCE)
  • 3+ years of civil engineering design experience
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the state of California with a minimum of 3 years of Public Works design experience
  • Proficient in HEC-RAS, AutoCAD and Civil 3D a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Project
  • Ability to work independently in a team environment and to manage multiple projects with limited supervision
  • Excellent verbal and written skills, communicating engineering information clearly and concisely
