The power generation market is growing and HDR’s national Power Generation team is positioned for significant growth. We are seeking a qualified Senior Electrical Power Engineer to help our clients develop, contract, and implement natural gas and potentially renewable energy generation projects while serving as Owner’s Engineer and/or Advisor.
Responsibilities- Lead teams for power generation design projects within a traditional Owner’s Engineering role, including development, contract support, and implementation oversight.
- Apply extensive experience in power generation and distribution, protection and motor control design, power system studies, construction and equipment specification development, and balance of plant designs (e.g., raceway, lighting, grounding).
- Mentor junior engineers, manage client relationships, and lead marketing activities such as proposal technical writing, fee development, and work breakdown structure creation in response to requests for proposals.
- Perform design and engineer-of-record responsibilities for power plant systems.
- Coordinate with Project Managers and Project Controllers during project reviews and guide other engineering staff as needed.
- Travel is expected to be minimal (less than 10%) for client meetings and project site visits.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in electrical power generation or related design fields
- Professional Engineers (PE or P.Eng) license
- Extensive experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office and standard Power Market Sector design software (examples include PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Auto Pipe, Revit)
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of HDR’s employee-owned culture
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program with an Electrical Power emphasis.
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Control Systems Engineering with an Electrical Power emphasis.
- Minimum 15 years of experience in electrical power generation design.
- Design experience with simple cycle and combined cycle power generation.
- Previous experience with an engineering power consulting or EPC firm.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to work independently, as a lead on a multi-discipline consulting team, or as a lead on a small team.
- Extensive knowledge of three-phase electrical power, protection and control design and settings development, system grounding, and related activities such as lighting and grounding design, instrumentation and life safety systems.
- Experience coordinating with Project Manager and Project Controller during project reviews with management as needed.
- Position will include an expectation of less than 10% travel for meetings with clients and vendors as well as project site visits.
