What’s the Opportunity?

Anchor QEA is seeking a full-time, junior level scientist, primarily to support work in and near San Diego and Irvine, California. The successful candidate will have a natural affinity for science, have the capacity to grow, be a quick learner, be detail‑oriented, be a committed team player, possess strong written and verbal communication skills, and be experienced with working in the marine environment.

This position will support environmental science, planning, and engineering projects involving short and long‑term monitoring programs for water, sediment, and biological resource quality; contaminated sediment and dredged material evaluations; stormwater monitoring; and source control investigations.

Responsibilities
  • Maintenance and calibration of field equipment and instrumentation.
  • Maintenance of vehicles and vessels.
  • Organization of field sampling supplies and warehouse space.
  • Field sampling and analysis at upland and in‑water project sites, which may include water quality monitoring, sediment and soil sampling, and marine mammal monitoring.
  • Compilation and management of environmental data.
  • Qualitative and quantitative analysis of environmental data.
  • Technical writing to support the preparation of sampling and analysis plans, data deliverables, and monitoring reports.
What Are We Looking For?
  • BS or MS degree in relevant field (e.g., environmental science, biology, geology).
  • 0-3 years of related experience.
  • Self‑starter with ability to work independently or collaboratively with a multi‑disciplinary team.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications.
  • Critical thinking and strong problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Reliable transportation and ability to commute to project locations in and near San Diego and Irvine, California.
  • Strong commitment to health and safety and technical excellence.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED and OSHA 40‑hour HAZWOPER certifications required; will be provided by Anchor QEA if these certifications have not been obtained.
  • Small boat handling skills, including trailering, launching, and retrieval, are a plus.
  • Willingness to travel during temporary field assignments.

Salary and Other Compensation
  • Salary Range: $71,610–$79,700
  • Annual Bonus
  • Other potential bonus types:
    Billable Time Bonus, Spot Bonus, Milestone Anniversary Bonus, Receiving Professional License/Certification Bonus, Peer‑reviewed Publication Bonus, Employee Referral Bonus.
Base Level Benefits for Regular Full‑Time Positions
  • Healthcare:
