Lab Technician, DPA (Destructive Physical Analysis) | EAG Laboratories

Eurofins Scientific is a global leader in analytical testing. EAG Laboratories offers advanced analytics services including failure analysis. The DPA Technician applies destructive and non‑destructive techniques to analyze electronic components for reliability issues.

Job Description
  • Perform DPA investigations per MIL‑STD methods (MIL‑STD‑883, MIL‑STD‑750, MIL‑STD‑1580) to identify defects and assess reliability risks.
  • Use optical/digital microscopy, SEM/EDS, X‑ray (2D and real‑time), and C‑SAM to characterize components.
  • Conduct cross‑sectioning, de‑lidding, chemical/plasma etching, hermeticity testing, and other physical analysis techniques.
  • Support reliability test plans and root‑cause investigations with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Implement new tools and techniques to enhance lab capabilities.
  • Analyze samples to identify failure initiation sites and construction anomalies.
  • Generate detailed technical reports and present findings to internal teams and customers.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO, JEDEC, AEC, IPC standards and customer specifications.
  • Mentor other technicians on best practices.
  • Maintain adherence to safety protocols, Technology Control Plan, and quality system requirements.
  • Protect confidential information and proprietary processes.
Work Schedule

Monday to Friday, 8:30 am – 5:30 pm (flexible).

Location

Irvine, CA. Relocation assistance not provided; local candidates encouraged to apply.

Qualifications
  • U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident, Political Asylee, or Refugee (ITAR compliance).
  • AS degree in Electronics or related technical field (highly desired).
  • 2+ years of experience in DPA, semiconductor or electronics failure analysis.
  • Expertise with MIL‑STD test methods (883, 750, 1580).
  • Knowledge of electronics components and integrated circuits.
  • High manual dexterity, meticulous, organized.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
Physical Requirements
  • Operate personal computer or lab equipment for extended periods.
  • Handle small and fragile devices with tweezers.
  • Operate lab equipment requiring use of keyboard, mouse, phone, and file cabinets.
  • Remain stationary 80% of the time.
  • Wear PPE (respirator, hard‑hat, safety glasses, lab coat, etc.).
  • Move equipment up to 50 lb.
