Job DescriptionThe DPA Technician performs destructive and non‑destructive physical analysis using optical/digital microscopy, SEM/EDS, X‑ray, and C‑SAM to characterize component construction and detect anomalies. The role includes cross‑sectioning, chemical/plasma etching, hermeticity testing, reliability assessments, and root‑cause investigations.
Essential Job Functions- Perform DPA investigations per MIL‑STD methods (MIL‑STD‑883, MIL‑STD‑750, MIL‑STD‑1580) to identify defects and assess reliability risks.
- Conduct advanced optical/digital microscopy, SEM/EDS, X‑ray (2D/real‑time), and C‑SAM analyses.
- Execute cross‑sectioning, de‑lidding, chemical/plasma etching, hermeticity testing, and other physical analysis techniques.
- Support test plans for reliability assessments and root‑cause investigations in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
- Implement new techniques and bring new tools online to enhance lab capabilities.
- Generate detailed technical reports and present findings to internal teams and customers.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards (ISO, JEDEC, AEC, IPC) and customer specifications.
- Mentor junior technicians and maintain safety, quality, and confidentiality.
- Adhere to safety protocols, Technology Control Plan, and quality system requirements.
- U.S. Person (Citizen, Permanent Resident, or political asylum/refugee) per ITAR.
- AS degree in Electronics or related technical/scientific field.
- 2+ years of direct experience in Destructive Physical Analysis or semiconductor/failure analysis roles.
- Proficiency with MIL‑STD test methods and handling of electronic components.
- High manual dexterity, meticulous, and organized.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Optical and Digital Microscopy; X‑ray (real‑time/2D);
Scanning Acoustic Microscopy; SEM/EDS. - De‑lidding, chemical etching, plasma etching, cross‑sectioning, wire‑bond pull, die shear, leak testing.
- Particle Impact Noise Detection, dye penetrant testing, and other physical tests.
- Industry standards (IS0, AEC, JEDEC, IPC) and device physics/circuit design.
- Experience with electrical bench equipment, SEM, LabVIEW, GDS layout.
- Understanding of semiconductor fabrication and packaging.
- Operate computer and lab equipment for extended periods.
- Maintain a stationary position 80% of the time.
- Wearing required PPE (respirator, hard‑hat, steel‑toed shoes, safety glasses, lab coat).
- Be able to lift up to 50 lb and handle small delicate devices.
