Senior Vice President, Plumbing Engineer – Buildings
WSP, Irvine, CA

WSP seeks a senior leader to guide plumbing engineering across building and infrastructure projects, ensuring delivery of high‑quality, compliant design and construction.

Responsibilities
  • Provide proactive and strategic leadership for the plumbing engineering discipline, offering direction, expertise, and support to ensure project and work site deliverables are successfully achieved.
  • Perform engineering review of permit applications, design plans, specifications, standby plans, contracts, integrated management plans, and periodic construction inspections to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and sound engineering practice.
  • Lead larger‑scale complex plumbing projects, overseeing budgets, monitoring events, tracking hours and expenses, ensuring satisfactory performance, and supervising subcontractors and employees.
  • Provide expert technical assistance on plumbing, fire protection and suppression, and fluid flow systems.
  • Develop and pursue business opportunities and successfully execute work for current and potential building and infrastructure projects.
  • Lead technical aspects of contract negotiation, presentations, and meetings.
  • Support overall strategy, growth, and pipeline development of Plumbing Engineering work, with a focus on building and infrastructure opportunities.
  • Ensure profitable performance and successful completion of projects within the specified area.
  • Assist with the preparation of an annual update to business tactical action plans.
  • Meet with public and private entities to discuss engineering challenges and programs.
  • Develop and continuously improve engineering discipline certifications, accreditations, and value proposition.
  • Conduct needs analyses and client value surveys to align discipline function with strategy.
  • Schedule discipline meetings, providing updates and recommendations to promote expertise and innovation.
  • Serve as liaison to federal, state, local agencies, clients, subcontractors, architects, and other professional groups.
  • Develop proposals, scopes, timelines, pricing, and budget metrics, ensuring compliance with codes and regulations.
  • Interpret and summarize data to support sound engineering conclusions.
  • Provide written and verbal input to multidisciplinary teams and give high‑level strategic advice to clients.
  • Build a client base for plumbing services, identify business development opportunities, and cross‑sell other WSP capabilities.
  • Mentor staff, support their growth and professional development.
  • Manage staff performance and provide leadership guidance.
  • Remain current with latest plumbing engineering techniques and practices.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary professionals to provide trusted advisor services and future‑ready solutions.
  • Exercise responsible decision‑making regarding company funds and conduct, adhering to WSP Code of Conduct.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Plumbing, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 15+ years of post‑education experience in engineering, plumbing, mechanical, and infrastructure design.
  • Extensive knowledge of plumbing design, particularly in healthcare; experience in multiple market sectors preferred.
  • Engineer license preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency with plumbing and mechanical engineering principles, practices, and design/build processes.
  • Advanced proficiency with building and infrastructure design.
  • Strong working knowledge of relevant plumbing and mechanical codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record‑keeping requirements.
  • Advanced proficiency in technical computations, plan interpretation, and regulatory compliance.
  • Works independently, providing guidance and leadership to mid‑level and senior team members with QA/QC adherence.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills, detail orientation, and prioritization under pressure.
  • Ability to solicit cooperation from varied stakeholders without formal hierarchy.
  • Advanced proficiency with office automation, calculations, design software (AutoCAD, Revit), technology, spreadsheets, and tools.
