Senior Specialist/Technician

SEL Engineering Services, Inc. (SEL-ES) seeks a professional, innovative and detailed individual for our Senior Automation Specialist position. In this role you will train and assist customers with the installation, commissioning, and operation of automation and/or protection systems, both on-site and from SEL offices.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Develop and maintain a distinguished level of expertise in the detail design practices of protection and automation systems.
- Teach, develop, mentor, and influence SEL employees and support hiring the highly qualified employees.
- Work within the project team to develop project deliverables.
- Train and assist customers with the installation, commissioning, and operation of automation and/or protection systems, both on-site and from SEL offices.
- Follows processes and recognizes the impact of problems. Creates and implements process enhancements.
- Work in a safe, healthful and environmentally sound manner, report accidents and unsafe conditions promptly, and perform ergonomic exercises to reduce likelihood of injuries.
- Provide support for other SEL marketing, sales, application engineering, and development activities.
- Acts as a mentor to specialists and technicians.
- Model, teach, and apply SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing principles.

- Must possess and maintain a California C-10 Electrical Contractor License
- Associate’s degree in electronic technology or equivalent experience/military school training
- 12 plus years of experience with electrical power systems or industrial automation system practices
- Good knowledge of system protection, integration, and automation applications working knowledge of electric power systems and protective relay applications
- Excellent technical training
- Ability to learn, mentor, and teach concepts and technical details of products
- Ability to work independently, accepting ownership of assigned responsibilities
- Willing to travel as needed
- Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills
- Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
- Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
- Background check results satisfactory to SEL
- Negative drug test result(s)
- Experience with electric power transmission, distribution, and/or generation systems
- Experience being a part of project teams
