Principal Air Quality Engineer/Scientist
Join SLR Consulting as a Principal Air Quality Engineer/Scientist in Irvine, California.
We are a 500+ member team delivering environmental and sustainability services. We are looking for an experienced professional to support air quality regulation compliance and customer engagement.

- Salary range: $140,000 - $160,000, with final compensation based on education, designation, experience, internal parity, and location.
- Full‑time, permanent role with opportunities for professional growth and advancement.
- Perform emissions estimate calculations for permitting, emissions inventories, and annual compliance reporting.
- Review state, federal, and local regulations for applicability determinations and compliance tasking.
- Provide compliance assistance for clients, including data management, document review, and development of compliance tools.
- Work with clients from a variety of industries in various geographic locations, including the United States and abroad.
- Travel to clients’ facilities for inspections and document review.
- Work within quality, budget, schedule expectations, and scope‑specific assignments.
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemistry, or related field.
- 15+ years of related hands‑on experience.
- Knowledge of California and federal environmental regulations (Title V, PSD, GHG Reporting, NSPS, NESHAP, RMP).
- Experience with air compliance and permitting.
- Experience with reporting programs (air emissions inventory, greenhouse gases, annual/semi‑annual air permit reports, compliance certifications, monthly permits).
- Understanding of industrial operations and combustion equipment.
- Effective written and verbal communication, organization, and analytical skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel by airplane and car, including overnight travel.
- Preferred: air dispersion modeling (AERSCREEN, AERMOD), MOVES (or MOBILE), AutoCAD or GIS, oil and gas, power generation, mining, or ports, technical writing.
