Description

The Assistant Fire Marshal recruitment is an Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) internal promotional recruitment. Only applications from current, qualified OCFA employees will be considered. The OCFA is currently recruiting to establish an eligibility list for future Assistant Fire Marshal vacancies.

Class Summary

Incumbents are responsible for supervising and coordinating the day-to-day operations of an assigned section. Incumbents may be assigned to the Planning and Development, Community Wildfire Mitigation, or Prevention Field Services sections.

Distinguishing Characteristics

The Assistant Fire Marshal is the sixth level in an eight level fire prevention series. The Assistant Fire Marshal is distinguished from the Senior Fire Prevention Specialist by its supervisory responsibilities. The Assistant Fire Marshal is distinguished from the Deputy Fire Marshal, which has managerial responsibility for day-to-day operations for an assigned section in the Community Risk Reduction Department.

Assistant Fire Marshal

Minimum Qualifications

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Education

Associate degree with major coursework in fire science, business, political science, or a closely related field.

Experience

Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience related to hazardous materials, plan review, and/or inspection experience.

Licenses and Certifications

Possession of a valid California Class C Driver License.

Highly Desired Qualifications
  • Current rank of Fire Prevention Analyst (non-probationary status) or Sr. Fire Prevention Specialist (non-probationary status)
  • Possession of a Bachelor's Degree with major coursework in fire science, business, political science, or closely related field
  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience
  • Five (5) years of related fire service experience
  • ICC Fire Inspector Certification(s) OR CSFM Fire Inspector Certification(s)
Benefits Overview

Employees have a choice of medical plans under the CalPERS Health Benefits Program and the Authority contributes toward the cost of health premiums as follows: 100% of cost for employee only premium, or 75% of cost for dependent/family premium. The enrollment period for a new employee is 60 days from the date of employment. In addition, employees are eligible for various compensation, retirement, and incentive programs as outlined by OCFA and OCEA.
