This role supports the Clinical Pathology department on the Evening (2:00 pm – 10:30 pm) and Night (10:00 pm – 6:30 am) shifts. It requires flexibility for weekend coverage, on‑call duties, and mandatory overtime as needed. The primary responsibility is specimen processing, including preparation for in‑house and send‑out laboratory testing, blood drawing from patients and donors, and advanced support across lab operations.
Responsibilities- Perform high‑volume specimen processing: labeling, centrifugation, routing, and preparation for in‑house and send‑out testing.
- Draw blood using appropriate techniques and equipment while observing patient safety and following established procedures.
- Collect, label, and transport specimens, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and proper handling across all specimen types.
- Troubleshoot and document specimen and workflow issues; maintain logs such as maintenance and temperature records.
- Support daily operations by greeting patients, processing lab orders, assisting with staff assignments, and mentoring new team members.
- Collaborate with team members to meet departmental goals, provide weekend oversight as needed, and contribute to special projects and scheduling.
- High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Three to five years of experience as a competent phlebotomist.
- Experience in specimen processing.
- California phlebotomy technician license.
- BLS Certification through the American Heart Association.
Base pay range: 27.00 /hr – 40.00 /hr. Per Diem Pay Rate: 40.608 /hr for this position; for candidates with under 3 years of experience the Phlebotomist LTA I rate is 32.592 /hr.
