Position SummaryUnder the direction of the Cytology Supervisor, the Cytotechnologist examines and evaluates cell samples for normal or abnormal cellular patterns, inflammatory reactions, presence of microorganisms, and pre‑malignant or malignant changes. The role processes and prepares all specimens—including bronchial washing/brushing, urine, body fluids, cerebrospinal fluids, fine needle aspiration, etc.—for cytodiagnostic procedures, records correlations, determines specimens to be correlated, and assembles complete documentation for physician review.
Other job‑related duties are performed as assigned.
- Strong recommendation from training or previous employment.
- Pass the slide review exam set by the department.
- Must be ASCP registered and have a current California license.
- Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job.
- Must be willing to work variable shifts and overtime as required.
- Must be willing to testify in court regarding testing activities if subpoenaed.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System.
- Previous experience in a hospital setting.
- Cytology training in a hospital setting.
