UCI Human Resources

UCI Human Resources serves the UCI enterprise in three distinct business units:
Health (Academic Hospitals and Community Network), College of Health Sciences, and Main Campus. Your Role on the Team

Provides subject matter expertise and effectively counsels employees and managers regarding all aspects of disability, leave of absence, workers’ compensation, benefit plans, utilization of entitlements under applicable laws and regulations, UC Policies and collective bargaining agreements. Applies highly advanced concepts to guide complex analysis, ensures compliance, and evaluates various employee options of significant scope and impact to the University and employee.

Administers Workers’ Compensation benefits for injured employees; authorizes appropriate treatment and assures that treatment is prompt, adequate, and economical; collects information from injured employees and supervisors; and discusses cases with attorneys, third‑party administrators, and other persons involved in Workers’ Compensation. Coordinates programs and education regarding workers’ compensation and leaves. Applies knowledge of job protected leaves to manage leave of absence (LOA) process for employees.

Provides consultation, assistance, and manages leave cases. Coordinates with workers compensation, disability management, benefits, and labor and employee relations.

What It Takes to be Successful

Required:

  • Thorough knowledge of FMLA, CFRA, PFL, PDL, Workers Comp, Military Leave, ERISA, HIPAA and applicable state and federal laws.
  • Working knowledge of rules and regulations affecting employee benefit programs.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and safeguard information.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively and with confidence.
  • Skill and sensitivity in dealing with others. Ability to handle difficult and complicated issues with professionalism and sound judgement.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to build relationships, collaborate and problem solve across all levels of the organization.
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to provide high level of service and adapt to shifting priorities.
  • Knowledge of computer databases and Windows software.
  • Ability to effectively utilize case management software.
  • Knowledge of CA workers compensation and disability insurance programs, including experience in the administration and counseling of income replacement insurance plans.
