Hyundai's North America Quality Center (NAQC) is the quality arm for Hyundai Motor Group (HMG)'s North American vehicle models and is seeking a Manager for the Powertrain Field Investigation team.
The TeamNAQC seeks to further Hyundai's goal of becoming the leading automotive manufacturer in North America by delivering uncompromising quality and exceeding consumer expectations.
The PositionThe PT Manager will oversee the powertrain field investigation team (internal combustion engine and transmission) to conduct investigations, collect duplication data, analyze root causes, and share findings through technical investigation reports. The candidate should have strong knowledge of automotive internal combustion engines and engine controls, solid troubleshooting skills, and be able to collaborate with stakeholders and affiliates to plan and execute joint activities.
WhatYou Will Do
- Lead the NAQC PT Group to improve overall quality, enhance customer perception, and ensure stable deployment of new vehicles.
- Set team-related goals and objectives that align with NAQC’s direction and drive execution, engagement, and results.
- Manage the team’s plan, strategy, and budget allocation/usage.
- Mentor engineers in best practices and promote continuous on-the-job learning and development.
- Support HMG on investigations by managing affiliates’ support, manpower, and investigation findings.
- Lead projects related to powertrain quality with pre- and post-product launch, service repair accuracy, and vendor quality.
- Monitor quality trends and coordinate quality improvement activities to reduce warranty cost and improve overall quality of the HMG brand.
- Prepare and present executive summaries to upper management.
- Maintain alignment with Korean coordinators to ensure effective exchange of information with HQ.
- Monitor external databases related to safety and product feedback, investigating and reporting when needed.
- Ensure administrative functions such as purchasing, timecard, vacation, and travel requests are followed promptly.
- Write and execute performance and competency evaluations.
- Report quality issues with accurate testing and duplication conditions for proper countermeasure development.
- Plan and manage efforts to enhance the capabilities of team engineers.
- Travel up to 30% of the time (domestic and international).
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent.
- 10+ years of experience working in powertrain systems.
- Previous team management experience preferred.
- Familiarity with vehicle instrumentation and data acquisition tools (e.g., ETAS INCA, Intrepid
CS, Vehicle Spy, thermal loggers, gauges, etc.), service manuals, shop equipment, and engine-related test equipment.
