Job DescriptionThe Toxin Innovation Group is seeking a highly motivated Associate Scientist II to help drive novel research within our collaborative neurotoxin discovery and innovation program. The successful candidate will work on a variety of cell-based assays to evaluate protein-based therapeutics and contribute to their pharmacological characterization. Expertise in maintaining aseptic cell cultures and executing complex cell-based assays is required, with great experimental precision.
The ideal candidate takes strong personal ownership of their projects while thriving in a dynamic, highly collaborative team environment.
Research with Select Agents is regulated and the candidate must conduct all work activities in compliance with Abb Vie internal requirements and applicable regulatory requirements.
Key responsibilitiesCulture cells in a sterile environment, including the expansion, differentiation, and maturation of human iPSC-derived neurons
Once trained, independently execute in vitro pharmacological studies and implement or develop new experimental protocols as needed.
Collaborate with cross-functional team members to achieve organizational goals, ensuring excellence in execution and effective workload prioritization
Perform data analysis, critique results, draw experimental conclusions, and present findings to multidisciplinary teams
Maintain accurate, timely, and complete experimental records in accordance with applicable laboratory practices, Abb Vie internal requirements, and regulatory expectations
Highly motivated, hands-on experimentalist who thrives in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment
Demonstrates flexibility and a commitment to scientific excellence
Possesses strong interpersonal and organizational skills, as well as creative thinking ability
Once trained, able to perform experiments independently and work effectively in a team environment
Independently perform data analysis, identify significant deviations, and draw appropriate conclusions
Demonstrates meticulous attention to detail and diligence in record keeping
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a biological science field with 3 years of experience in an academic or industry laboratory setting
Expertise in cell culture aseptic techniques is required
Experience in differentiating and maintaining iPSC cell cultures is preferred
Expertise in executing enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA), complex cell-based assays, and western blotting is required
Experience with immunohistochemistry, microscopy techniques, and/or flow cytometry is preferred
Computer skills: working knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) is required
Knowledge of graphing software (e.g., Graph Pad Prism) and a basic understanding of statistical analyses are preferred
Strong writing and communication skills
