About This OpportunityUniversity of California, Irvine offers Postdoctoral Scholar in Nitrogenase Biochemistry — Ribbe/Hu Laboratory in Irvine, focused on nitrogenase catalysis, metalloenzymes and protein biochemistry.
The University of California, Irvine is recruiting a postdoctoral scholar in the Ribbe/Hu laboratory to investigate the biochemical mechanisms of nitrogenase and related metalloenzyme systems. The research addresses how complex metal-containing catalytic centres support biological nitrogen fixation. Work may involve characterising protein complexes and catalytic activity, preparing biochemical samples and contributing to mechanistic studies of enzyme assembly and function. The programme combines experimental protein biochemistry and molecular investigation of metalloenzymes.
A PhD in biochemistry, chemistry, microbiology or a related subject with relevant laboratory research experience is required. Compensation or funding: USD 69,073–82,836 per year. Application timing:
Final date 30 November 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Standard Time; earlier review date is not the closing date.
Who This Opportunity Is Best Suited For:
Candidates with expertise in metalloproteins, enzyme kinetics, protein purification, molecular structure or microbial physiology may be well suited to the experimental agenda.
Potential Challenges / Who May Find It Less Suitable:
Specialised protein handling and biophysical experimentation may limit fit for candidates seeking a wholly computational postdoc; the appointment is subject to standard university postdoc conditions.
Overall Opportunity Assessment:
The opportunity addresses fundamental chemistry of biological nitrogen fixation through focused, laboratory-based metalloenzyme research.
