Associate Engineer, Product Software - Power Electronics

Irvine, CA

Aerospace is at a turning point — costs are rising, supply chains are strained, and old ways of building can’t keep up. At Neon Aero, we’re breaking that mold. We move fast, think big, and combine start‑up agility with aerospace expertise to design, build, and scale aircraft in ways the industry has never seen. Our team leverages automation, AI‑driven tools, and a fully connected digital backbone to accelerate innovation and reduce barriers to production.

Here you won’t just take a job — you’ll help reinvent how the world flies. If you’re ready to solve complex problems, push technology further, and work alongside some of the brightest minds in aerospace, this is your chance to make a real impact.

The Associate Engineer, Product Software is an entry‑level role with opportunities to learn aviation software development skills and processes while contributing to software development and verification.

Why This Role Matters
  • Develop low‑level software modules for motor control or other real‑time embedded software development under senior SW engineer guidance.
  • Verify software functions at module level by developing test plans and test harnesses.
  • Work with senior SW engineers and hardware engineers to understand power electronic hardware and function, and use them to develop test set‑ups for integration testing.
  • Develop test scripts and GUI in Python or equivalent for software verification.
  • Help develop software requirement tracing and design documentation per software development process established in the team.
  • Resolve software bugs found in verification testing.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as needed to support team and project success.
What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor’s in electrical engineering, computer engineering, robotics, or a related field (preferred but not required); equivalent professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Minimum of 1 year of professional experience in real‑time embedded software development for a physical product.
  • Strong foundation in embedded C/C++ programming for real‑time systems, familiar with microcontroller architectures such as STM
    32, TI C2000, or NXP.
  • Basic understanding of motor control concepts and algorithms such as field‑oriented control (FOC), PID control, and pulse‑width modulation (PWM).
  • Ability to work with debugging and development tools for embedded systems, including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and in‑circuit debuggers.
  • Familiarity with communication interfaces like CANbus, SPI, or UART.
  • Exposure to software development processes, version control (e.g., Git), and testing methodologies including unit and integration tests.
  • Basic skills in MATLAB/Simulink for algorithm simulation and prototyping are often preferred.
  • Good problem‑solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Good scripting skills in Python or equivalent for software testing.
  • Curiosity, drive, and willingness to challenge convention and move quickly.
  • Passion for aerospace, autonomy, and building technology that scales.
Why Join Us
  • Work alongside elite engineering talent and innovators from across aerospace and tech.
  • Be part of a team moving faster than the industry standard.
  • Shape solutions that are lower‑cost, autonomous, and scalable – the future of aviation.
  • Competitive compensation, growth opportunities, and full benefits (health, vision, dental, 401K) designed to support you in and out of work.

Location‑specific pay range: $70,000 - $110,000 USD
