MIDDLE SCHOOL ELAR ESL TEACHER
Job Title: Middle School ELAR/ESL Teacher
WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Exempt
REPORTS TO: Principal
PAY GRADE: Teacher Salary Schedule (187 Days)
DEPARTMENT: Assigned Campus
DATE REVISED: 02/12
PRIMARY PURPOSE: To provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in core academic subjects, helping them reach their potential for growth and enabling them to develop skills for success in a global society.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- Valid Texas teaching certificate for the subject/level assigned
- ESL Supplemental Certification
Special Knowledge/Skills
- Competency in the core academic subject area
- Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Ability to instruct students and manage behavior
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Proficiency with technology and ability to integrate it into teaching
Minimum Experience
At least one (1) year of student teaching or approved internship
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Develop and implement curriculum plans, showing evidence of preparation
- Present subject matter according to TEA, board policies, and regulations
- Use data to plan and implement instructional strategies, accommodating individual needs
- Collaborate with special education staff to modify curricula as per IEPs
- Coordinate with staff on instructional goals and methods
- Supervise assignments for aides and volunteers
- Use technology to enhance teaching and learning
Student Growth and Development
- Assist students in improving study habits
- Monitor achievement through assessments
- Participate in extracurricular activities and serve as a positive role model
Classroom Management and Organization
- Create a conducive learning environment
- Manage student behavior per policies and IEPs
- Ensure safety and proper use of equipment and materials
Communication
- Maintain open communication with students and parents
- Foster professional relationships with colleagues and community
Professional Growth and Development
- Keep current with content knowledge and teaching strategies
- Participate in professional development
Policy Implementation
- Comply with regulations and policies
- Maintain records and reports
- Attend meetings and serve on committees
Working Conditions
Must maintain emotional control and communicate effectively. Occasional travel and irregular hours may be required. Adhere to safety policies and procedures.
This is an in-person position. Work from home is not permitted unless approved by the Superintendent.
