Overview
Special Education (PASS) Aide (25-26 SY) - Mac Arthur HS at Irving ISD. This is a grant-funded position with funds expected to be available through the end of the school year. A Letter of Reasonable Assurance may apply.
Primary PurposeAssist the special education teacher to provide for the physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities. Support the implementation of classroom programs, personal care needs (including self-help), behavior management, and instruction. Work under the general supervision of the principal and the immediate direction of a certified teacher.
QualificationsMinimum Education/Certification: Educational Aide I Paraprofessional Certificate;
High School Diploma or GED
Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to work well with children with disabilities; ability to follow verbal and written instructions; effective communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
Minimum Experience: Experience working with children/students, parents, or persons with disabilities
Major Responsibilities And Duties- Maintain confidentiality
- Keep accurate records of students with disabilities and furnish to appropriate personnel in a timely manner
- Assist in supervising students throughout the school day, both inside and outside the classroom (lunchroom, bus duty, playground, community)
- Assist teacher in maintaining, copying, transferring confidential folders as required
- Assist special needs students with individual tasks as required, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, positioning, feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene
- Assist in managing the behavior of students and crisis intervention
- Adapt to each student’s medical, physical, communicative, emotional, and safety needs through in-service and/or teacher direction
- Work with and/or prepare materials for individual students or small groups under teacher direction
- Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students
- Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and board policies
- Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned

Working ConditionsMental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem-solving under stress; communicate effectively (verbal and written); interpret procedures and analyze data for decision-making. May be required to lift or transfer students and assist with positioning students with physical disabilities. Possible exposure to biological hazards, bacteria, and communicable diseases. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling. Occasional irregular hours.
Safety: Contribute to safety by observing rules, following district policy, wearing PPE as required, reporting injuries immediately, and participating in ongoing safety efforts.
