We are seeking a skilled and experienced Traveling Field Controls Technician to perform the testing and commissioning of Building Management Systems (BMS) on construction projects, according to specifications. This role applies knowledge of various building trades such as electrical, mechanical, telecommunications, and information systems networks to computer-based control systems, building automation and environmental control energy equipment in commercial and industrial buildings.
They collaborate with customers, engineers, and contractors on project start-up and commissioning.
- Execute detailed commissioning plans, including functional testing, sequence of operations, point-to-point verification, and system calibration for BMS systems with minimal supervision.
- Perform on-site commissioning activities, including wiring, termination, point-to-point verification, and system integration with other building systems (HVAC, lighting, security).
- Independently interpret blueprints and other technical documents.
- Perform functional testing of the specified sequence of operations to ensure proper operation of the control equipment
- Troubleshooting to ensure proper performance of all field devices, controllers, and associated wiring.
- Collaborate with Lead Controls Technicians, Engineers, and customers to address concerns, clarify requirements, solve issues and facilitate smooth project completion.
- 2+ years experience in installing, configuring, and commissioning BMS systems.
- In-depth knowledge of BMS protocols, hardware, software, and programming languages to troubleshoot complex system issues and coach more junior team members.
- Self-motivated with a results-oriented mindset.

- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Relevant certifications or technical training is preferred but not mandatory.
