Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist

Scouting America is seeking an Environmental, Health & Safety Specialist to join our forward-thinking organization committed to creating safe, sustainable, and compliant environments for all program participants. We prioritize innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement in environmental health and safety practices.

As an Environmental, Health & Safety Specialist, you will provide enterprise-wide support to protect participants in program activities. Acting as a subject matter expert, you will lead hazard identification, incident analysis, and compliance audits to ensure safety standards are met and exceeded. This position reports to the Director of Environmental Health and Safety.

Responsibilities
  • Identify and evaluate hazards associated with Scouting America activities and programs and recommend changes and improvements.
  • Implement and integrate agreed upon controls or risk mitigation strategies into Scouting America activities and programs. Monitor, audit, and implement controls to ensure effectiveness and reports on results.
  • Aggressively review and lead analysis of injury, illness, accidents, or near misses to establish root causes, identify trends, and update program specific prevention strategies. Maintain confidential records.
  • Maintains records of hazard and risk assessments, audits and near miss reports.
  • Participates as a member of cross functional teams providing consulting on health-related issues and leads environmental and safety related initiatives.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
  • Knowledge of: Program implementation and risk mitigation strategies; federal and state EHS regulations and standards; hazard identification and risk assessment methodologies;
    Incident investigation and root cause analysis techniques; data analysis and reporting methods.
  • Skill in: Leading investigations and analyzing incidents; safety training and facilitation; interpersonal communication and team collaboration; data analysis and interpretation; project management.
  • Ability to: Identify and assess potential hazards; develop and implement risk mitigation strategies; conduct investigations and analyze incidents; effectively communicate EHS information to diverse audiences; work in a cross-functional team environment; prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Health, Occupational Safety and Health or a related field from an accredited college or university.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in environmental, health and safety (EHS) or a closely related field.
  • Must pass a criminal history background check.
Licenses

The ability to gain the Certified Safety Professional within four years.

Preference
  • Graduate Safety Professional or Associate Safety Professional preferred.
  • Experience with Riskonnect.
