Job Summary

Medical Laboratory Scientist II at Baylor Scott & White Health. The Med Lab Scientist II performs and monitors a full range of laboratory testing and analysis. Assumes responsibility for problem resolution, quality control, and required equipment maintenance with minimal supervision. Must comply with departmental procedures and regulatory requirements.

Location: BSWH Medical Center, Irving, TX

Department: Core Lab

Shift: Night 7 on 7 off 9pm–7:30am

Responsibilities
  • Performs laboratory tests in compliance with department procedures and pertinent regulatory requirements.
  • Follows quality control, quality assurance, safety, and infection control procedures.
  • Performs instrument maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting.
  • Accurately reports test results.
  • Maintains appropriate inventory of supplies.
  • Maintains effective communication and working relationships with all laboratory personnel, other disciplines, and external customers.
  • Participates in laboratory projects and educational activities.
  • Demonstrates and educates laboratory principles and technical skills to others.

Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's degree or 4 years of work experience above the minimum qualification.
  • Experience: At least 2 years of hospital experience equivalent to MLS ASCP or similar generalist.
  • Preferred Experience:

    MLS ASCP or equivalent generalist with at least 2 years of hospital experience.
  • Certification / License / Registration: Must have one certification from ASCP (Blood Banking, Chemistry, Cytogenetics, Cytology, Hematology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology), or other recognized agency such as ABHI, AMT, AAB, or HEW licensee.
  • Other qualifications: CLS, HEW, MLS, MT, SCT, SCYM, SMB.
