** Job Summary
**** Essential Duties and Responsibilities
** Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include but are not limited to the following:
* Work under the supervision of a medical technologist or physician to perform tests that help physicians diagnose and treat diseases
* The Medical Laboratory Technician is responsible for accurately performing specimen analysis, instrument maintenance, and quality control procedures including moderate and high complexity laboratory tests
* Follows laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing test analysis, reporting and maintain records of patient results
* Follows necessary QA/QC requirements for a COLA laboratory
* Performs routine Chemistry, Hematology, and Urinalysis testing
* Prepares peripheral blood smear and performs complete WBC differential on normal and abnormal smears
* Processes samples for send out and reflex laboratory testing
* Participates in proficiency testing by performing sample analysis and reporting results at least once a year
* Assists with special procedures as needed (i.e. bone marrow aspiration/biopsy procedures)
* Ensures operation of analyzers and other laboratory equipment by calibrating; completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques
* Maintains laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies
* Conserves laboratory resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results
* Maintains professional and technical knowledge by maintaining certification requirements
* Maintains inter- and intradepartmental workflow by fostering a spirit of cooperation
* Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
* Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control and hazardous waste policies and protocols
* Maintains patient confidence and protects the company by keeping information confidential per HIPAA regulations.

Skills and Abilities

*** Must be comfortable with manual differential testing and performing venipunctures
* Must be comfortable with Clinical Lab Testing, Chemistry Techniques, and Analyzing Information
* Experience with reading Microscopic UA
* Experience with Manual Differentials
* Must be comfortable with Equipment Maintenance
* Comfortable using Microsoft Word and Excel and databases
* Must be a team player with great communication
** Required

Education and Experience
*** Associate's degree in MLT
* ASCP certification as an MLT
* Minimum of 1+ years of experience as a Med Laboratory Technician/Laboratory Scientist Documentation Skills
* Hematology/Core Lab/Phlebotomy experience is preferred
