We are currently seeking a Director, EHS Programs and Performance within our Utilities sector in the U.S. Reporting to the Sr. EHS Director, you will lead our EHS team across the U.S. for Utilities, working closely with operational and project leadership.

• Lead and align a team of Operational EHS direct reports to EHS’ strategic intent by focusing the teams’ activities and holding each individual accountable for results.
• Work with Operations Leadership to ensure adequate EHS resources are in place as business continues to expand in the U.S.
• Drive consistent implementation of Aecon EHS strategy, vision, programs, policies and initiatives across the operational sector / project(s).
• Monitor and report on EHS performance to operational leadership, inform corrective strategies.
• Maintain a pulse on EHS related concerns or developments and provide pragmatic and timely solutions to address issues that impact the attainment of business objectives.
• Contribute to and communicate a company wide long‑term vision and a strategy to achieve short, medium and long‑term goals.
• Ensure Aecon EHS Program is successfully implemented on all U.S.
  
  -based projects, work with senior management to continuously improve Aecon’s Health and Safety Programs.
• Assist and support the development of site‑specific safety training and orientation of workers, supervisors, staff, subcontractors and clients.
• Ensure site‑specific EHS documentation and plans are in place before work commences, with risk and mitigation strategies defined.
• Liaise with external parties such as regulatory agencies, government inspectors, sub‑contractors, and general public.
• Represent the Company at meetings with stakeholders and other organizations on issues regarding workplace health and safety matters.
• Develop and maintain a network of industry‑wide contacts.
• Mentor project leadership in the requirements of conventional safety procedures.
• Walk‑down jobsite performing audits and inspections and ensure key programs are implemented and controls are in place as per Aecon requirements and site‑specific EHS Management Plan. Review and audit applicable EHS documentation.
• Lead and/or oversee major incident investigations.
• Develop and deliver presentations to management, workers, sub‑contractors, and clients.
• Mentor and coach project management, craft and supervision in the field with regards to safety roles and responsibilities and compliance with safety standards.
• Support proposal development, as required.
• Maintain and update EHS Program Procedures, as required.

• Minimum 5 years’ experience coordinating and managing health and safety for construction operations.
• Previous experience in a leadership role required.
