Job Description

Summary: The Maintenance Assistant Manager leads and manages the maintenance supervisors, technicians and team and is responsible for the effective utilization of the maintenance team to address plant processes, equipment, and facility upkeep. With a “One Team, One Mission” approach, this position collaborates across all shifts and with multiple departments (Utilities, Production, Planning, Safety) to support consistent production, minimize downtime, and enforce HACCP, USDA, and food safety protocol, all while providing continued growth opportunities to our team members.

Essential Functions:

• Manages the highly diversified activities of Maintenance teams and Apprentices, tracks their performance, planned repairs/projects, and preventative maintenance; empowers supervisors and all maintenance team members to meet and exceed maintenance standards.
• Ensures effective response to line breakdowns; leads the team that investigates and completes failure analysis on work order challenges, and works through appropriate actions with teams to prevent future breakdowns.
• Provides a safe environment for continued growth; mentors and motivates associates, offering training and development to optimize performance and personal growth; communicates performance standards, recognizes and rewards achievements, and counsels performance problems.
• Assists with new projects: provides cost estimates, scope of work, time frame, warranties, etc., and supplies monthly progress reports.
• Ensures compliance with company policies and procedures: safety regulations, GMP’s, SOP’s, SSOP’s, HACCP and SQF; member of the HACCP Team.
• Provides back‑up support to the Maintenance / Utilities Manager and Supervisors, filling in for the manager during absences, rotating weekend PM coverage for supervisors as needed, and offering cross‑functional support with the utilities department.

Required Qualifications:

• Seven or more years’ experience in an Industrial Mechanics or related position OR an Industrial Mechanics degree/equivalent technical diploma and 5 years plant maintenance experience.
• 5 years in a leadership and/or project management role.
• Strong interpersonal skills, including professional oral and written communication, a team‑focused approach, and the ability to remain composed and make decisions in stressful situations.
• After one year this position requires achieving Operator 1 certification from an Ammonia Refrigeration training center.
• After three years this position requires achieving Operator 2 certification from an Ammonia Refrigeration training center.
• After five years this position requires filling in for Utilities Supervision as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in food manufacturing facilities (particularly poultry).
• Regulatory compliance knowledge, including USDA regulations, HACCP, GMP, and Food Safety (SQF).
• Strong computerized maintenance management system knowledge.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Supervisory Responsibility: This position will manage Maintenance supervisors and 10‑20 Maintenance team members at the Irving facility.

Work Environment: Primarily office environment, with requirement to work in wide variations in temperature (-40°F freezers, 32°F coolers, 40°F production area, wet cold environment); noise, slippery floors and moving equipment in operations setting.

Physical Demands: Position will include extensive standing, sitting, lifting, climbing ladders, wearing factory‑required equipment while working in production, walking, visual, responding quickly to sounds, and driving.

Position Type: This is an exempt role; may be asked to change schedule and work ‘off’-shifts.

Travel: Some travel may be required to assist in other facilities (less than 5%).
