Primary Purpose
Under general supervision, maintain, repair, and install plumbing systems, services, and equipment for the District. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all plumbing systems and fixtures in District facilities.

Qualifications
Education/Certification

• High School Diploma or GED, required
• Valid Texas Journeyman Plumber License, required
• Documented Trade School plumbing courses, preferred
• Valid Class C Texas driver’s license and proof of insurability with District insurance carrier

• Knowledge and skills to qualify as a Journeyman plumber in accordance with industry standards
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and plumbing (water and sewer) diagrams
• Strong organizational, communication (verbal and written), and interpersonal skills
• Ability to supervise and train plumbing staff
• Ability to follow and issue written and verbal instructions
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations
• Ability to diagnose and resolve problems
• Ability to use hand and power tools
• Basic computer skills
• Ability to utilize technology resources relevant to position

Major Responsibilities And Duties
Maintenance and Repair

• Perform preventative maintenance on plumbing systems and components as well as fixtures and all types of lines and water heaters.
• Determine best approach to solving tasks after carefully evaluating work site to ensure safety for site occupants and/or facility users while project is underway.
• Outline projects and works with minimal oversight.
• Review and inspect assigned tasks to adequately order required materials and supplies for the job.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, diagrams, and written reference material outlining the scope of various projects.
• Install new equipment, including but not limited to commodes, lavatories, sinks, water, gas and sewer lines, piping, drains, grease traps, water heaters and pee-traps, and unstop plumbing components as needed.

• Record all materials and supplies used and man-hours accumulated on projects until scope of work is accomplished to keep the foreman informed on total job costs.

• Provide ongoing guidance and on the job training for plumbing helpers.
• Serve on-call periodically for emergencies that occur at night, on weekends, and during holidays; and respond to pages and calls in a timely manner.
• Exhibit behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible; and serve as role model for staff and public.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Practice a high standard of safety in the performance of all duties.
• Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidences immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
