Position: Grounds Utility Lead (25-26 SY)- Facilities
Overview

Grounds Utility Lead (25-26 SY) – Facilities — Oversee the upkeep and maintenance of all District athletic fields. Supervise and perform surface and sub-surface work required in the preparation and upkeep of District grounds and properties. Work with others to coordinate, establish and maintain landscaping, fencing, asphalt, and concrete repairs through the use of heavy equipment and utility crews.

Qualifications
  • Education/Certification
    • High School Diploma or GED, preferred
    • Valid Class-C Texas driver’s license and proof of insurability with District insurance carrier
  • Special Knowledge/Skills
    • Knowledge of and ability to operate heavy equipment
    • Ability to demonstrate, coach, and train others in the proper use and operation of heavy equipment
    • Knowledge of the material make-up of concrete and asphalt, and the effects of weather in pouring, patching, and finishing
    • Ability to supervise, train, coordinate, and work with other trades
    • Skilled in strong organizational, communication (verbal and written), and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to utilize technology resources relevant to position
  • Experience
    • Three years operation of tractors, front-end loaders, backhoes, graders, buckets, and various heavy equipment experience, and experience with utility, asphalt, and concrete work and repair, preferred.
Major Responsibilities And Duties Grounds Utility Maintenance
  • Oversee and perform a variety of actions to support utility and irrigation crews, including but not limited to: using heavy equipment in digging, grading, trenching and leveling, piling, back filling, shoring and compacting, pouring and repairing concrete and asphalt parking lots and athletic fields.
  • Inspect all work involving heavy equipment and ensure tasks are completed before leaving job site or unfinished areas are adequately secured. Keep campus administrators aware of actions in or around campuses.
Supervision and Training
  • Review projects and distribute daily work assignments for utility and heavy equipment personnel at campuses, facilities, and other District properties, based on safety, routine operating schedules, and sporting and special events.
  • Identify staff needing additional training in heavy equipment work and recommend training to assist in improving staff performance.
Records and Reports
  • Maintain written records of daily activities.
  • Prepare, implement, and maintain preventive maintenance schedules for tools and equipment. Ensure that maintenance is completed and vehicles and equipment are in safe operating condition. Recommend replacement of existing equipment when necessary.
Other

Safety
  • Practice a high standard of safety in the performance of all duties and ensure staff abides by District policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidences immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
