Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust Anaesthetic ODP/Nurse – Band 5

West Middlesex University Hospital is looking to recruit a Band 5 Anaesthetic ODP/Nurse to join its theatre workforce across adult, paediatric and obstetric specialties.
Main Duties of the Job- Deliver safe, effective anaesthetic care across all perioperative stages
- Participate in rotation across specialties to maintain and develop competence
- Contribute to maintaining efficiency, patient flow and theatre utilisation
- Demonstrate strong communication and non‑technical skills in a fast‑paced environment
- Support service improvement, including cost‑effective and environmentally sustainable practices
- Safely identify, prepare, check and assemble required equipment in line with manufacturer and Association of Anaesthetist guidelines
- Ensure the anaesthetic room is clean, tidy and welcoming for patients
- Facilitate the delivery of safe surgery in line with national pathways such as NatSSIPs2 and GPAS
- Communicate well with the MDT to advocate for patients throughout perioperative journey
- Ensure the theatre is closed down in a manner that leaves it stocked and ready for the next list or emergency case
- Develop a wider knowledge base by rotating through all surgical specialties
- Work with senior colleagues to collect and disseminate data based on local and national quality indicators
- Facilitate the continued safe running of the department in the absence of the Floor Coordinator or other senior staff
- Act in accordance with the Trust PROUD values and reflect on times when adherence to these has been suboptimal
- Act in accordance with all HCPC/NMC standards
- Maintain the ability to elevate concerns effectively and appropriately
- Recognise that all people are different and require an individualised approach
- Treat others with respect and dignity, even when values conflict
- Understand the financial and environmental impact of duties and seek to minimise where possible
- Ensure mandatory training is kept up to date and professional CPD requirements are upheld
- Understand personal limitations and manage stress within oneself
- Current HCPC/NMC registration
- Completed HCPC‑approved ODP programme (for ODPs) or recognised anaesthetic course (for nurses)
- Completed a mentorship course
- Demonstrated enthusiasm or proactive nature towards learning and professional development
- Ability to work full shift pattern, including nights and weekends
- Excellent communication and non‑technical skills
- Good understanding of human factors and ergonomics
- Ability to prioritise workload, meet deadlines and work independently
- Ability to negotiate and problem‑solve in a dynamic setting
- Ability to work well independently and within a multi‑cultural multi‑disciplinary team
- Relevant clinical experience working within an NHS theatre setting
- Experience working within obstetric, paediatric and adult theatre settings
- Experience supervising junior staff and/or students
- Incorporates reflective practice and stress management
