SEND Tutor

Teacher Active is currently recruiting enthusiastic and committed SEND Tutors to support learners across London who require individualised educational support beyond the traditional classroom setting. Tuition may take place in a variety of environments, including the learner’s home, community venues, local libraries, or within schools as part of alternative provision programmes.

In this role, SEND Tutors will work with pupils who present a range of additional needs, including ASD, SEMH, ADHD, MLD, Dyslexia, as well as students with EHCPs who need carefully tailored learning plans.

The Role of a SEND Tutor:

You will be responsible for:

Planning and delivering bespoke 1:1 tuition sessions aligned with each learner’s ability, targets, and education plan

Providing academic support in subjects such as English, Maths, and Functional Skills

Encouraging the development of confidence, independence, and emotional wellbeing

Adjusting teaching approaches to suit individual learning needs and SEND requirements

Monitoring and documenting progress, attendance, and engagement

Working closely with families, schools, and relevant professionals to ensure consistent support

We Are Seeking Tutors Who:

Have experience working with children or young people with SEND

Are confident delivering face-to-face, one-to-one tuition

Demonstrate strong communication, organisation, and planning skills

Show a patient, understanding, and supportive manner

Can quickly establish positive, trusting relationships

Are skilled at adapting learning for varying levels of ability

The Following Experience Is Beneficial (But Not Essential):

Qualified Teacher Status or prior classroom teaching experience

Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification

A degree in Education, Psychology, or a related field

Additional training in areas such as Autism, SEMH, Team Teach, Makaton, Dyslexia, or mental health support

Experience with in Alternative Provision or home education settings
