Position: Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)

Salary: £100 – £115 per day

Salary dependent on experience and qualifications. Higher rates are reserved for candidates with substantial experience and/or relevant training such as a recognised Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent). Pay is determined in line with school expectations and Agency Worker Regulations (AWR), where applicable.

About the School

Teach-Now is working with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Haringey seeking a confident and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join their team.

The school has a strong community ethos and supportive leadership team. Staff work collaboratively across EYFS, KS1 and KS2, and classrooms are well supported with Teaching Assistants in place. This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable whole-class experience in a structured and supportive environment.

About the Role

This full-time position is to cover a maternity leave, starting Monday 9th March 2026.

The role offers a varied timetable:

• Mornings:
Supporting Year 1 and Year 2 with small phonics groups (approx. 6 pupils) and maths interventions

• Afternoons:
Covering a Year 1/2 class (all planning provided; no end-of-day handover required)

• Fridays:
Supporting in Reception for part of the day

All classes will have a TA supporting, and planning will be prepared in advance. This role is ideal for a confident HLTA who is comfortable leading a class and delivering pre-planned lessons.

It would particularly suit someone considering a future career in teaching and looking to build strong classroom leadership experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver small-group phonics and maths interventions

• Lead whole-class teaching in Year 1/2 during afternoon sessions

• Maintain a positive and well-managed classroom environment

• Support pupils’ academic progress and wellbeing

• Work collaboratively with class teachers and support staff

• Uphold safeguarding and school policies at all times

Requirements

To be eligible for this role, applicants must have:

• HLTA status or significant experience covering classes

• Strong understanding of phonics and KS1 curriculum expectations

• Confidence leading whole-class learning

• Excellent behaviour management skills

• A proactive and professional approach
