Salary dependent on experience and qualifications. Higher rates are reserved for candidates with substantial experience and/or relevant training. Pay is determined in line with school expectations and Agency Worker Regulations (AWR), where applicable.

Teach Now is seeking an experienced and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and supportive two-form entry primary setting in Hackney, with nursery provision. This is a rewarding long-term opportunity providing dedicated 1:1 support for a Year 6 pupil with complex needs and a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).

The pupil is incredibly kind and can be a real pleasure to support. However, there are occasions where he may become dysregulated and display challenging behaviours, including physical behaviours such as hitting. The successful candidate will therefore need to be calm, patient, consistent and confident in using behaviour support and de-escalation strategies.

This role is ideal for an SEN Teaching Assistant who has strong experience supporting pupils with Autism, complex SEN, behavioural needs, or social and emotional difficulties, and who is passionate about helping children feel safe, understood and ready to learn.

The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will provide structured and nurturing 1:1 support throughout the school day, helping the pupil access learning, regulate emotions and develop independence.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing dedicated 1:1 support for a Year 6 pupil with ASC and complex needs.

• Supporting learning, communication, emotional regulation and social interaction.

• Using calm and consistent behaviour management and de-escalation strategies.

• Helping maintain a structured, predictable and positive learning environment.

• Encouraging independence, confidence and positive engagement in lessons.

• Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider support team.

• Supporting the implementation of individual behaviour and learning strategies.

• Maintaining professional boundaries while building a trusting, positive relationship.

Requirements

The successful candidate will have:

• Previous experience supporting children with Autism and complex SEN needs.

• Sufficient experience working with ASC pupils in a school or specialist setting.

• Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.

• Experience supporting children who may present with physical behaviours when dysregulated.

• A calm, resilient, nurturing and consistent approach.

• The confidence to set clear boundaries while building positive relationships.

• A genuine passion for helping children achieve their full potential.

• Experience with in a primary, KS2, SEN or Teaching Assistant role.
