Caretaker, Building Maintenance, Facility Maintenance

We are seeking a reliable, responsible, and practical Caretaker for our client based in Islington. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out general maintenance and caretaking duties, monitoring the premises, reporting issues, and ensuring the building and surrounding areas are maintained to a high standard.

The Caretaker will be hands-on, organised, safety-conscious, and able to work independently while responding effectively to day-to-day maintenance and operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities for Caretaker

* Carry out general caretaking, maintenance, and minor repair duties across the site.

* Ensure buildings, communal areas, grounds, and facilities are clean, safe, secure, and well maintained.

* Conduct regular checks of the premises and report any defects, damage, hazards, or maintenance requirements.

* Carry out minor repairs and basic maintenance tasks where appropriate.

* Assist with setting up and moving furniture, equipment, and other items as required.

* Monitor the condition of fixtures, fittings, doors, windows, lighting, plumbing, and other building facilities.

* Report larger or specialist maintenance issues to the appropriate contractor, manager, or facilities team.

* Maintain external areas, including paths, entrances, grounds, and other communal spaces.

* Assist with waste management and ensure waste areas are kept clean and tidy.

* Carry out routine health and safety and security checks.

* Ensure doors, windows, gates, and other access points are secure when required.

* Respond promptly to maintenance issues, emergencies, and requests from staff or building users.

* Liaise with contractors and service providers when required and provide access to the premises.

* Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, incidents, and reported issues.

* Follow all relevant health and safety, security, safeguarding, and site procedures.

* Use tools, equipment, and cleaning products safely and appropriately.

* Maintain a professional and helpful approach when dealing with staff, visitors, residents, contractors, and members of the public.

* Carry out any other reasonable duties required by the Site Manager or Facilities Manager.

Requirements for Caretaker

* Previous experience in a caretaking, facilities, maintenance, estates, cleaning, or similar role is desirable.

* Good practical and hands-on skills with the ability to carry out minor repairs and maintenance tasks.

* Good understanding of health and safety procedures.

* Ability to identify and report maintenance issues and potential hazards.

* Ability to work professionally with staff, contractors, visitors, and members of the public.

* Physically able to carry out manual tasks, including moving equipment and furniture where required.

* Comfortable using basic tools and maintenance equipment.

* Previous experience working within a school, residential, care, public-sector, commercial, or community environment.

* Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, decorating, or other building maintenance.

* Relevant health and safety or facilities-related qualifications.

* Relevant driving licence where required for the role
