About the Opportunity Amentum is leading a joint venture delivering a Framework Contract for the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC). The JV provides intellectual support services to the nuclear decommissioning programme across multiple European sites, supporting activities such as project & programme management, licensing, radioactive waste management, decommissioning, and nuclear engineering.

Role Overview For the JRC Ispra site (Northern Italy), we are seeking Radwaste Managers / Radioactive Waste Specialists at multiple experience levels. These client‑facing positions provide technical and operational support services, not direct waste handling. They support waste management strategies, coordinate technical activities, and ensure alignment with regulatory and programme requirements.

Key Responsibilities Support the development and implementation of radioactive waste management strategies, including:

Waste classification, characterization and inventory management

Treatment, conditioning, storage and disposal pathways

Alignment with regulatory and site‑specific requirements

Provide technical support to JRC waste management activities, including:

Supervision and coordination of waste retrieval, treatment and conditioning operations

Assessment of waste management facilities and processes

Review and update of waste management procedures and systems

Support preparation and review of technical documentation, including:

Waste management plans and procedures

Waste acceptance criteria (WAC) and compliance documentation

Inventory records and reporting documentation

Contribute to waste tracking and data management, including:

Maintenance and verification of waste inventories

Support to waste information systems and reporting tools

Coordinate interfaces with related disciplines, including:

Decommissioning activities (waste generation and flows)
Radiation protection, licensing and regulatory compliance

Support JRC in ensuring compliance with:

National and European regulations

Site licence conditions and waste acceptance requirements

Contribute to programme reporting and governance, including:

KPI tracking related to waste management

Identification and management of risks and issues

Input to structured reporting and technical reviews

Operate within a multi‑stakeholder environment, supporting coordination between:

JRC (client)
JV partners

Subcontractors and waste management operators

Experience Levels Junior / early career: up to ~6 years experience

Middle level: typically 6–12 years experience

Senior level: typically 12–20 years experience

Expert level: 20+ years experience

Qualifications

Experience in radioactive waste management or related nuclear field

Experience supporting or delivering work in regulated environments

Radioactive waste classification, characterization and treatment processes

Understanding of waste conditioning, storage and disposal routes

Awareness of regulatory frameworks for radioactive waste management

Understanding of waste management systems and processes within nuclear facilities

Ability to contribute to technical documentation and reporting

Experience working in multidisciplinary teams

Relevant degree (engineering, environmental science, nuclear science or related discipline) or equivalent experience

Ability to work full‑time on‑site in Ispra, Lombardy (Italy)
English language proficiency (minimum B2 level)
