Job Description & How to Apply Below

The Divisional Vice President, Global Logistics leads REI’s domestic and international logistics, transportation, trade compliance, and reverse logistics operations. This executive is accountable for the seamless movement of goods from suppliers to distribution centers, stores, and customers, enabling revenue growth, margin improvement, and differentiated customer experiences across REI’s omnichannel network.

Reporting to the Vice President of Distribution & Fulfillment Operations, this leader will define and deploy an enterprise logistics strategy that anticipates future network expansion, evolving commercial models, and changing customer expectations. The role oversees approximately $220 million in annual controllable operating expense and leads a team of 18 employees, including four direct reports. In partnership with senior leaders across Supply Chain, Retail, Digital, Finance, Marketing, Sustainability, and Technology, this DVP will modernize capabilities, improve service and cost performance, and advance REI’s social impact and sustainability commitments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive global logistics and transportation strategy aligned with REI’s business priorities, future distribution network, and omnichannel growth plans.
  • Lead domestic and international inbound and outbound transportation, parcel delivery, inter-distribution-center transfers, store delivery, direct-to-customer fulfillment, reverse logistics, and third-party freight hubs.
  • Optimize end-to-end service, cost, capacity, and lead-time performance while delivering year-over-year productivity improvements and maintaining strong customer outcomes.
  • Own the annual logistics operating plan and budget, including forecasting, capacity planning, cost-to-serve analysis, and performance against financial and service targets.
  • Set the strategy for carrier and 3PL relationships; lead sourcing, contracting, service-level expectations, quarterly business reviews, and corrective action plans across 30+ strategic partnerships.
  • Lead trade compliance and ensure adherence to customs regulations, tariffs, trade laws, safety standards, and fair labor practices while maximizing the financial value of REI’s Foreign-Trade Zone status.
  • Anticipate and mitigate transportation and supply chain risk, including port disruption, geopolitical events, capacity constraints, and changing regulatory requirements.
  • Advance parcel delivery and customer-choice capabilities that improve speed, reliability, convenience, and the differentiated experience expected from a specialty outdoor retailer.
  • Partner with Technology leadership to create and deploy the Global Logistics technology roadmap, including transportation, order, event-management, optimization, analytics, and integration capabilities.
  • Lead continuous improvement across logistics operations, using data and operational insights to identify trends, resolve performance gaps, and scale effective processes.
  • Align logistics practices with REI’s sustainability and social impact goals, including waste reduction, responsible sourcing, recycling, refurbishment, and product-value recovery.
  • Build and develop a high-performing organization grounded in customer focus, accountability, collaboration, change leadership, and continuous improvement.
  • Represent REI externally with carriers, suppliers, government representatives, and industry groups on topics including omnichannel fulfillment, international trade, compliance, and tariff impacts.

The Essential Leadership Behaviors required by the future Divisional Vice President, Global Logistics connect directly to REI’s values, mission, strategy, and commitment to delivering value for members, employees, communities, and the outdoors.
