Child and Youth Program Assistant - Retention Bonuses

Summary:

Child and Youth Program Assistants work directly with children and youth to keep them actively engaged, well‑cared for, and safe while participating in the CYP. The day of a CYP Assistant includes helping children develop social skills, makes healthy choices, builds self‑help and school readiness skills, and explores the environment around them.

Duties and Responsibilities

Work directly with children and youth to keep them engaged and safe.

Develop schedules and activity plans, ensuring needs of individual children are met.

Implement activities and special events; adapt to special dietary needs.

Maintain indoor and outdoor activity areas; inventory supplies; secure equipment.

Supervise children, maintain control of whereabouts, report concerns; mandatory reporter to Family Advocacy and Child Protective Services.

Communicate with parents and employees; provide daily verbal or written feedback.

Observe for signs of illness, abuse, neglect; report as directed.

Requirements

Must be 18 years of age or older.

Complete required training certificates and maintain certifications or credentials required by DoD Child and Youth Programs.

Pass all applicable records and background checks.

Undergo pre‑employment and random drug testing; a positive drug test results in removal from this position.

Pass a pre‑employment physical, provide evidence of immunization, be free of all communicable diseases.

Marijuana is a Schedule I drug under federal law; a positive drug test results in withdrawal of the job offer.

This position identified as a Test Designated Position; must consent to drug testing.

US citizenship that is a military spouse or family member of overseas federal employees in Naples, Italy on PCS orders.

Qualifications

Effective communication in English, oral and written.

Follow verbal and written instructions.

Complete all DoN training requirements within the specified timeframe.

Promote and foster effective working relationships with children, youth, and coworkers.

Work cooperatively as a member of a team.

Six months of experience working with children or youth in a child and youth setting.

Education

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.

College transcripts may be requested for higher education positions.
