Job Description & How to Apply Below
Job | Amazon Data Services, Inc.
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.
You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.
Amazon is seeking a self-starter to join the AWS Energy team in pioneering the future for data center utility power by developing and executing the strategy by which AWS delivers energy projects and partners with electric utilities and energy companies across the Americas. This individual will define the end to end (generation, transmission, distribution, backup power) power strategy for scaling and operating AWS’ diverse, low‑cost energy supply.
In this role, you will manage multiple, large‑scale and technically complex power infrastructure projects across multiple geographies by facilitating close collaboration between internal and external stakeholders. You will be resilient in exploring new supply opportunities that deliver near‑term capacity with an accelerated path to net‑zero carbon supply, convert them into executable projects, and reduce energy capital and operating expenses. Internally, you will report status, risks, mitigations and successes to C‑level and VP‑level leadership, influencing cross‑functional partner teams.
Externally, you will manage utility interactions, coordinate real‑estate, engineering and planning efforts for site evaluation, project engineering, scheduling and budgeting, and contract with utilities, EPCs, or Owner’s Engineers to meet AWS’ needs. You will work in an integrated team to implement a strategy that meets and exceeds AWS’ energy program requirements while delivering projects on time with reliability and cost savings.
Key job responsibilities
Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive utilities strategy for AWS data centers for AMER regions.
Manage multiple Utilities, EPC and Owner’s Engineers to deliver MV and HV power infrastructure, including negotiations and contracting.
Develop and execute energy strategies that leverage capital projects (utility grid connections, high‑voltage substations, energy storage, etc.) to reduce long‑term energy costs and manage capital budgets for electrical infrastructure and energy projects.
Work collaboratively with Amazon CFE/RE team to support the development of strategic energy sourcing opportunities.
Execute electricity supply contracts that create new clean energy capacity on the grid (through utilities), reduce cost, minimize risk and leverage opportunities that benefit Amazon.
Manage a portfolio of complex energy projects.
Collaborate with internal teams and regulated utilities on the implementation and management of energy projects to meet business timelines.
Identify and develop innovative cost‑saving projects (capital and operational) and initiatives related to energy infrastructure and supply.
Complete due diligence on in‑market opportunities and develop those opportunities into cost savings for the business.
Work with utility regulators to develop policies and guidelines that enable broader AWS strategies and objectives.
About the team
Think like a group CEO of generation, transmission, distribution and backup power companies. We are the ones who are developing the vision, strategy and execution plan of what the future looks like and helping everyone in the Energy Value chain to do things differently.
