We are seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer with deep expertise in hydrogeological and geotechnical hazards, including landslides, slope failures, rockfall, soil erosion and structural improvements. The role will lead and support high level assessments, design, and hazard mitigation strategies within EU regulatory frameworks. This professional will act as a technical leader within our Soil Defense & Stabilization capability, contributing to complex project delivery, providing client‑facing expertise, and supporting work‑winning activities.
Through strong delivery the focus is to grow and strengthen client relationships, enhance market presence, mentor junior staff, and support team development.
YOUR NEW ROLE, WHAT'S INVOLVED?
Lead teams and direct or manage multidisciplinary projects
Drive and support capability growth by pursuing new business opportunities with new and existing clients, developing proposals in coordination with business development
Lead geohazard assessments (landslides, slope failures, rockfall, groundwater‑driven risks)
Develop integrated geological–geotechnical–hydrogeological conceptual models and risk evaluations
Develop field investigations, drilling, instrumentation, and monitoring programs
Design stabilization measures and provide technical guidance across all project phases
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
MSc/PhD in Engineering Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or similar, with complementary competencies in Hydrogeology
10–15+ years of experience in geohazard assessment (landslides, slope failures, groundwater‑related hazards) within EU regulatory frameworks
Professional chartership required
Demonstrated experience in delivering geotechnical engineering projects from proposal to completion, with public and private clients
Demonstrated experience in proposals for public and private tenders
Demonstrated experience with infrastructure, energy, utilities or environmental sector clients
TECHNICAL SKILLS
Strong understanding of slope processes and groundwater–slope interactions
Proficiency with major geotechnical modelling tools (PLAXIS, Geo Studio, Slide, Roc Science)
Ability to integrate geological, geotechnical, and hydrogeological datasets into coherent risk assessments
Experience in geotechnical engineering and foundations design in building and infrastructural works
Knowledge of EU and national standards governing hydrogeological risk and land stability
SOFT SKILLS & LEADERSHIP
Strong analytical mindset and clear technical communication
Ability to independently manage complex tasks and coordinate across multidisciplinary teams
High integrity, orientation to quality, and willingness to mentor junior staff
Leadership potential to support team growth and capability development
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage complex, multi‑disciplinary projects and deliver successful outcomes
Strategic mindset with the capability to shape and strengthen WSP’s offering and market position
